INCLUSION NEEDS BASED LEARNING ASSISTANT

This Job Description may be adjusted by the Headteacher according to the changing needs of the school. This post is subject to the conditions of employment contained in the Jebel Ali School contract and to work in line with new COVID guidelines in supporting students and staff.

Role Summary: NBLAs are employed to provide initial evaluations for students who have been identified by class teachers or specialists as having difficulties, (which may include language development and/or behavioural, social, physical and/or academic) or have been identified as possible EAL or EMA students.

NBLAs liaise with class teachers and specialists, under the direct line management of the Deputy Headteacher, to create interventions which may include observations and monitoring, as well as pastoral and behaviour plans.

NBLAs work closely with class teachers to monitor the success of the interventions put in place. They are a vital part of the ‘Pebble Procedure’.

However, as with all things in a busy primary school, it is necessary to be flexible on occasions and adapt to changing needs.

Role Responsibilities:

  • Carry out observations/assessments and/or tasks, as directed by the Deputy Headteacher

  • Create intervention programmes, in liaison with the class teacher/ iteam, as directed by the Deputy Headteacher

  • Track the progress/success of intervention programmes and feed-back to the DHT, noting strengths and areas of concern

  • Liaise with DHT/YGL/class teacher/LA/iteam

  • Work as unobtrusively as possible within the classroom environment

  • Maintain strict confidentiality regarding the child, other children and staff at JAS at all times

  • Attend staff training sessions, wherever possible, in order to stay current with best practice at JAS and ensure the best outcomes for the child

  • Adhere to school policies at all times but in particular for Safeguarding, Dresscode, Behaviour and Teaching & Learning

  • Understand that initial Safeguarding training and consequently adhering to Safeguarding policy and practice is a prerequisite to the job

  • Supervise children in the playground at the start/end of the day and at break times as required.

  • Seek to actively support and promote the school through positive public relations and to maintain absolute confidentiality regarding all matters relating to school.

  • Carry out other duties as may reasonably be required from time to time by the Headteacher or Deputy Headteacher.

  • Minimum of 2 A Levels or equivalent

Role Summary:

To advise on service, maintain and develop the Library/Resource Area with regard to promoting reading and research and curriculum requirements.

Role Responsibilities:

To liaise with departments/teachers in provision of resources and effective timetabling for the library

Responsible for selection of resources – books, audio-visual materials, periodicals. Liaising with staff and taking cognisance of requests for specific titles and subject areas from students and staff, utilising a range of sources, for example publishers’ catalogues, specialist magazines and journals.

Stock maintenance – includes maintaining up-to-date stock, weeding out damaged and old resources, replacing ‘lost’ or ‘missing’ items where appropriate, purchasing new editions, etc.

Work with the Head of Finance and Secondary Headteacher to set, manage and track the library budget.

Managing the Oliver library system – includes setting parameters, issue and return of resources, reserving resources and issuing reservation notices and overdue notices for late returns.

  • Managing, maintaining and developing the student online interface (OPAC).
  • Cataloging all new resources, classifying resources purchased locally and amending existing resources. This involves programming and allocating RFID tags, completing and enriching records, e.g. subject index, publisher, edition, notes, etc.
  • Developing a program of lessons on academic honesty, information literacy and research skills to supplement the Social Studies and Moral Education curriculums.
  • Be proactive in creating a safe and inviting environment that is conducive to learning and promotes increased library usage for both students and teachers.
  • Producing annotated booklists to maximise and encourage reading. These are distributed to the English Department and to subject teachers/Heads of Year.
  • Assist students with subject searches and finding individual titles and recommend books on an individual basis.
  • Maintain all library display areas. Make sure the space is constantly refreshed and updated to promote new books, themes or events.
  • Act as a forum for self-expression and creativity by offering or promoting competitions in literature and the arts.
  • Maintain an up-to-date overview of the curriculum to ensure appropriate resource provision.
  • Encourage book ownership by for example, running book clubs (e.g. Magrudy’s, Bookworm and Red House International Book Club) and organising author visits.
  • Attend the termly BSME Librarians’ group meetings.
  • Work collaboratively with other library staff employed at the school to ensure optimum use of resources across the entire school and to minimise unnecessary duplication.
  • Co-ordinate extracurricular Library Club.

Hours of Work: 7.30am – 3.30pm

All staff in school will be expected to accept reasonable flexibility in working arrangements and the allocation of duties in pursuance of raising pupil achievement and effective team working. Job Purpose Under direction from the School Administration Manager, the Data Management Officer will provide assistance and support in the management and integrity of whole school data and provide efficient and effective organisation of the school’s contact and billing information, assessment, reporting, recording and tracking systems. The Data Management Officer will work closely with SLT, Accounts, Parent Relations Team, ICT Lead Practitioner and IT Manager in the fulfilment of all tasks.

Roles and Responsibilities
Data manipulation

  • Work with members of leadership team and senior teachers to develop systems to track the academic progress of students
  • Support the collection, collation, analysis and dissemination of assessment data to inform target setting procedures and support of students’ progress across the curriculum.
  • Produce relevant reports for all stakeholders and work with relevant staff to consider data and identify trends, patterns, threats and opportunities.
  • Support staff members on the use and interpretation of data.
  • Manage the technical aspects for setup of data for all new students and removal of leavers.
  • Work to understand and advise all regulation relating to data protection and advise the leadership teams accordingly
  • Work to ensure integration of all school data management systemsISams
    • Work closely with the iSams manager to ensure that data collection and manipulation is carried out in the most effective way
    • Create the new academic year and ensure and manage the smooth transition from one academic year to the next with all sections of iSAMS
    • Create, maintain and update the teaching groups, forms, teaching staff and pastoral staff for the timetable
    • Produce pupil and staff timetables with amendments as required
    • Promote students into the new year timetable structure incrementing their curriculum years
    • Set up all required class lists, groups, etc., for academic and activity use.
    • Support all divisions of the School in completing pupil registers, generating absence/ late reports.
    • Undertake all ongoing revisions to data and create custom fields to capture additional data where necessary.
    • Undertake regular maintenance tasks such as the annual rollover of data and the archiving of staff leavers (in liaison with HR and IT).
    • In liaison with the IT Network Manager co-ordinate the integration between the database and other current and future school databases and systems.
    • As required complete any other tasks relating to the iSAMS data e.g. producing figures for Governors etc.
    • Develop SQL queries against the iSAMS database to produce bespoke reports as required.Assessment, Reports and Examinations
      • Working to the school’s reporting cycle prepare and provide all tracking sheets and report input templates.
